The officer fired multiple shots at the dog, killing the animal.
A Jersey City police officer who responded to a woman's complaint about three unleashed pit bulls shot and killed one of the dogs after it attacked the woman.
Lt. Edgar Martinez, a city police spokesman, tells The Jersey Journal that the officer went to a residence around 1:30 p.m. today. While he was speaking with the woman and her child, the three dogs charged at them and one bit the woman on the arm.
The officer fired multiple shots at the dog, killing the animal. The other two dogs were not harmed and were soon secured by animal control officers.
Martinez said the woman was not seriously injured, but her child and the officer were traumatized by the shooting. All three were treated at a hospital.
