John J. Pavis, pharmacist at Newhard Pharmacy in Northampton, was awarded the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association’s 2012 Excellence in Innovation Award during the association’s annual conference in Scranton.
The award, coordinated by the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations, honors a pharmacist who has demonstrated significant innovation in their practice, resulting in improved patient care and advancement of the pharmacy profession.
Pavis oversaw the opening of a vaccination clinic, instituted management training for pharmacists and managers at Newhard Pharmacy, and has developed relationships with new, innovative buying groups and technology partners.
Pavis serves as Cubmaster of Pack 352, Minsi Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America, and is a coach for the Bethlehem Catholic Little Hawks wrestling team.

Cindy Penchishen, of Slatington, senior manager of the audit division at Bethlehem-based accounting and business consulting firm Concannon, Miller & Co. PC, has earned the designation of Certified Fraud Examiner from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
She will work with organizations on financial fraud detection and litigation support to help clients detect and prevent fraud. Penchishen has more than 12 years’ experience in the accounting/audit field. She joined Concannon, Miller in 2011.

Tom Stephens, hearing instrument specialist and owner of Bethlehem-based hearing technology firm Hear PA, has been awarded the Millennium Award at the Starkey Innovation Summit held this summer in Eden Prairie, Minn.
The award recognizes exceptional service and use of the newest technologies in hearing care.
Hear PA offers services and hearing instruments for those suffering from all levels of hearing loss. Stephens joined the practice in 1973, becoming owner in 1980. Under his supervision the practice has grown from one location in Bethlehem to six practices with locations in Allentown, Bethlehem, Reading, Hazleton and East Stroudsburg and Hackettstown.

Gary Gatyas, of Lopatcong Township, was named senior vice president for global marketing and communications at New York-based Kantar Health, a health care-focused global consultancy and marketing company.
He will be responsible for advancing Kantar Health’s marketing and media relations strategies. He will also develop communications programs that support the company’s employee relations and talent acquisition.
Gatyas last served as director of global media relations at IMS Health, where he helped launch the IMS Institute for Healthcare Informatics. Before that he was an associate director with accounting and professional services firm KPMG and led client account teams at Gibbs & Soell Public Relations and the Dudnyk Group of marketing companies.

Noel Ruiz-Castaneda was named manager of PPL Generation’s energy plant in Lower Mount Bethel Township.
An experienced manager of utility operations and generating plants, Ruiz-Castaneda comes to PPL from HOVENSA LLC, a refinery on St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, where he had been director of power and utilities. Before that he worked for Instrument Specialties of Orlando, Fla., and held management and technical positions at Florida Power and Light Co. Ruiz-Castaneda is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
