Pennsylvania State Police at Lehighton have an arrest warrant for Robert P. Smith III, 21, of Kunkletown, Monroe County

Pennsylvania State Police are looking for Monroe County man who they say led them on a high-speed chase and injured a trooper.

The incident happened Friday night, according to a news release issued tonight from state police at Lehighton. They say, Robert P. Smith III, 21, of Polk Township, eluded troopers during a traffic stop on Route 534 for several violations, including speeding up to 107 mph in a 55 mph zone.

According to the release:

Police pursued Smith on westbound Route 534. Eventually, Smith turned around, sped toward a state police cruiser and rammed the passenger front side. The impact disabled the cruiser and caused its airbags to deploy, injuring Trooper Michael E. Pahira Jr., 30. Smith fled the scene eastbound on Route 534. The release said Pahira suffered minor injuries.

Police said Smith is wanted on 15 charges, the most serious being aggravated assault and fleeing and eluding police.

Police describe Smith as having blue eyes and blond hair, 5 feet 11 inches with facial hair and thin build. He was last seen operating a black 1995 Dodge 2500 pickup truck with yellow stripes, front-end damage and a Pennsylvania registration ZBA2581.

Anyone with information regarding Smith is asked to call state police at 610-377-4270.
