A free information session is planned Monday.
Northampton Community College is offering four non-credit diplomas to help veterans and other unemployed workers obtain skills training and improve employment prospects. The program is paid with a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.
Participants interested in attending classes must a JobTrak PA information session planned for 1 to 3 p.m. Monday in Alumni Hall at the school’s main campus 3835 Green Pond Rd., Bethlehem Townshp, Pa.
Participants can choose to specialize in machinery repair, geothermal heat pumps, electrical construction, or air conditioning and refrigeration. The programs can be completed in one year or less.
Programs include hands-on instruction by faculty with industry experience and a “Foundations in Trades” course to introduce participants to the skills demanded in the current economy.
Each student will also have the opportunity to work with a career coach.
Cost of the program is about $5,000. Individuals can apply for tuition assistance from public money administered through Pennsylvania CareerLink.
The grant is part of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training program.
