A western Pennsylvania police officer has his job back more than two years after he was fired following the death of a grossly intoxicated man left in the back of his police cruiser for nearly five hours.
The Punxsutawney Spirit reports the borough council approved the re-hiring of Detective Brian Andrekovich by a 7-0 vote on Monday.
Andrekovich was fired in November 2009 following the death of 48-year-old Stephen Obbish a few months earlier.
A coroner found Obbish died of drug and alcohol toxicity in the back of the cruiser after being arrested for public drunkenness. The autopsy found he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.301 and had three drugs to treat psychotic disorders or depression in his system.
An investigatory panel ordered Andrekovich reinstated after the state attorney general determined it wouldn't bring charges.
