Luzerne resident William Hoffman is being held on $1 million bail.

Police say a northeastern Pennsylvania man sent a text message that referred to blowing up two high schools.

The Times-Leader of Wilkes-Barre reports 41-year-old Luzerne resident William Hoffman was arraigned Friday on charges of threat to use weapons of mass destruction and making terroristic threats. He's held on $1 million bail.

Authorities say a man called police after getting a text on his phone Thursday that referred to shooting people and blowing up two high schools; the message allegedly then said the sender had changed his mind so the recipient better go to school Friday.

The recipient told police he received a second text saying it was a "bad joke to the wrong number."

Police say Hoffman intended to send the message to his girlfriend's daughter.

It wasn't immediately clear if Hoffman had an attorney.
