The fire on Potters Road in Stillwater Township, N.J. -- adjacent to Warren County's Hardwick Township -- is being investigated by the arson unit of the New Jersey State Police and the major crime units of the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office, the newspaper said.

The ambulance crashed on Stillwater-Fredon Road after the driver, who was not identified, suffered a heart attack while driving resident John Baer to the hospital, authorities told The Associated Press.

Baer is hospitalized in intensive care, but further details on his condition were not disclosed.

Greg Mueller, Sussex County's first assistant prosecutor, says Baer's wife, Dorothy, was killed after a fire engulfed their home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
