Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem has topped the state in table games revenues.
Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem made more money on table games than any other casino in the state in 2012, according to a report released today.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board report says the local casino, which opened in May 2009 on former Bethlehem Steel Corp. land, took in almost $146.5 million last year just on table games. The casino with the second-highest amount of table-game revenue in the state was the Parx Casino in southern Bucks County, which brought in about $109.9 million last year, the report says.
Statewide, table games at 11 casinos collectively generated about $687.3 million in gross revenue in 2012. That amount marks an 11 percent increase over 2011 revenue.
When Sands and other casinos in the state first opened, state law only allowed for slot-machine gaming. The law was later amended to allow for table games such as blackjack and roulette. Sands opened its first table games in July 2010. It now has 152 tables, and casino analysts have said the Sands’ close proximity to the New York City metro area has helped keep those tables crowded.
Today’s report from the gaming control board comes just less than two weeks after the board released a similar report looking at 2012 revenue from slot machines. That report showed Sands brought in about $291.5 million on slots last year as compared to $270.9 million the previous year. It trailed only Parx in terms of gross revenue on slots alone.
Overall in 2012, the state’s casinos grossed about $2.4 billion in gaming revenue, marking an increase of about 4.4 percent from 2011.
