A Belgian draft horse named Mark died this week during a pulling competition at the Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg.
The 10-year-old horse died Tuesday after pulling a weighted sled with another horse. The Public Opinion newspaper of Chambersburg reported that draft horse owners say the horse that died appeared to be fit.
The newspaper says the Pennsylvania Veterinary Laboratory performed a necropsy and toxicology screening, but results weren't available yet.
A witness, Tiffany Plessinger, told the newspaper that the horse was unhitched after a full pull, and he took two steps and fell over. Veterinarians went quickly to the horse, but another witness, Barb Montgomery, says the horse never got up and didn't move.
