Small businesses and nonprofits involved in agriculture in Lehigh County face a Feb. 22 deadline to file for federal economic injury disaster loans as a result of freezing temperatures last spring, federal officials said this week in a news release.
The U.S. Small Business Administration gave the disaster declaration to 21 counties because of the impact the unseasonable cold temperatures had on crops. Northampton County was not among the 21 counties included in the declaration.
The SBA says it determines eligibility based on the size of the applicant, the type of activity and its financial resources. The loan amount can be up to $2 million with a 4 percent interest rate for small businesses and $4 million with a 3 percent interest rate for nonprofits, according to the SBA.
