More people support gay marriage than oppose it, the poll also finds.

A new poll shows strong support in Pennsylvania for certain gun-control measures more than a month after the school slaughter in Newtown, Conn.

The telephone survey by Connecticut-based Quinnipiac University released today showed 95 percent of Pennsylvania voters support background checks for all gun buyers.

The survey also found that voters support, by a three-to-two margin, nationwide bans on the sale of assault weapons and the sale of large-capacity ammunition magazines.

Voters were more closely divided on other issues.

The poll showed 47 percent said they would favor the legalization of same-sex marriages, with 43 percent opposed. But respondents were evenly split over increasing gas taxes to finance highway and bridge repairs.

The survey was conducted over six days ending Sunday. The sampling error margin was plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
