White Township, Bloomsbury and Alpha will benefit from the nearly $8.5 million package of 35 grants supporting the state's Local Aid program.
Two municipalities in Warren County and another in Hunterdon County will receive state grant money for local road and safety projects, the New Jersey Department of Transportation announced in a release Monday.
White Township, Bloomsbury and Alpha will benefit from the nearly $8.5 million package of 35 grants supporting the state's Local Aid program. The package includes grant money from the state's Local Aid Infrastructure Fund and the Safe Routes to School initiative.
The grants do not require recipient communities to match or put forth any dedicated funds.
“These grants are among hundreds distributed by this administration every year to help local and county governments advance essential projects without burdening local property taxpayers,” Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno said in the release. “Local Aid grants are funneling $380 million in state and federal funds to support worthy local projects and planning initiatives in the current fiscal year.”
For Safe Routes to School grants, Alpha will receive $200,000 for sidewalk improvements along Schley Avenue; Bloomsbury is slated to get $293,000 for safe sidewalks around the Bloomsbury Elementary School and surrounding community.
White Township will receive $150,000 through the Local Aid Infrastructure Fund for the resurfacing of Manunkachunk Road.
Township Deputy Mayor Sam Race said news of the grant money was "fantastic" to receive.
"We were delighted to get it," said Race. "Very pleased."
