News of new hires coincides with visit from Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett.
St. Luke’s University Health Network plans to hire 150 new employees in the coming year at its Anderson Campus in Bethlehem Township, Pa., according to a statement detailing a visit today from Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett.
Corbett toured the campus as part of a review of economic and job growth in the northeastern part of the state, the health network's news release said.
The campus at Freemansburg Avenue and Route 33 represented a $175 million investment by St. Luke's. Currently, close to 500 employees work at the campus’s hospital, cancer center and medical office building. The health network’s statement did not indicate the types of new jobs that are being created, but noted two projects aimed at growth.
According to the health network:
Construction is under way to expand the hospital’s emergency department from 17 treatment rooms to 32 rooms at an expense of $4 million.
Plans also are in place to develop 30,000 square feet of unfinished shell space on the hospital’s fourth floor into 36 medical and surgical patient care rooms at a cost of $8 million. This expansion will increase the hospital’s patient bed capacity from 72 to the full licensed complement of 108 beds.
Robert Wax, senior vice president and general counsel at St. Luke’s University Health Network, said the health network was honored to have Corbett visit.
“St. Luke’s is proud of the economic investments we have made to our community and the jobs we have created,” he said. “By continuing to expand hospital services and funding additional capital improvements, we act as a vehicle of development for the region.”
