A bit of freezing rain could bring a messy commute Monday morning, weather forecasters say.
Mike Murphy, a meteorologist at Weather Works in Hackettstown, said that in the Lehigh Valley, temperatures will fall from about 27 degrees this evening into the lower to mid-20s.
"The best chance of freezing rain is in the pre-dawn hours tomorrow to very early tomorrow morning -- at about 8 or 9 a.m.," Murphy said. "We're not looking at a significant icing, just a coating of ice is possible around the morning commute."
By afternoon, Murphy said temperatures will then rise again to the lower to mid 40s.
Murphy said weather forecasters also are watching a winter storm brewing in the southeastern United States that could bring snow Wednesday evening. However, current data is showing it will affect south of the Lehigh Valley, Murphy said.
"We are watching it for now," he said.
