A New Jersey court has cleared the way to upgrade a high-voltage power line that would run through parkland spanning Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The appeals panel dismissed a lawsuit brought by environmentalists who raised concerns about the Susquehanna-Roseland transmission line.

The project calls for following the existing right of way through 16 towns. The $750 million project will boost the line to 500,000 volts and replace about 240 support towers with towers 145 to 195 feet tall.

The Record newspaper reports the court found sufficient evidence to support regulators that the project was not prompted by “a pretext to find expanded markets for coal-generated electricity.”
