A man's body was found after the fire was put out, authorities say. Blood was smeared on the wall along the staircase leading to the apartment.
Authorities are investigating a homicide at the scene of an apartment fire in Chester County.
District Attorney Tom Hogan says a man's body was removed from the residence in North Coventry Township after crews responded to a fire there. The blaze had broken out about 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hanover Gardens Apartments.
The blaze was quickly controlled and investigators found the body afterward.
Authorities say blood was smeared on the wall of the staircase leading to the second-story apartment. The death has been ruled a homicide, but police aren't saying how he was killed or if they have any suspects.
The victim's name has not been released.
