The incident cleared dozens from the Jefferson on the Creek apartment complex in Warminster.
Authorities say they don't know whether it was shots fired by police or a suspect that killed a 90-year-old neighbor during a standoff at a suburban Philadelphia apartment complex.
Police say officers were responding to a domestic disturbance at the Jefferson on the Creek complex in Warminster, Pa., shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday. They say a man inside an apartment fired multiple shots at police and barricaded himself inside.
Authorities say the suspect, identified as 49-year-old Andrew Cairns, surrendered about 2:30 this morning after about a six-hour standoff. Warminster police Chief Mike Murphy said the woman was a downstairs neighbor, but he didn't know whose shots killed her.
Cairns is charged with aggravated assault, police say. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
About 60 people in apartments closest to the affected area had to leave and a shelter was set up at a nearby high school.
