A 50-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen after answering the door to someone posing as a delivery driver, police say.

Authorities in Monroe County ask residents to be vigilant at home after a woman was shot in the abdomen by someone posing a delivery person, Pennsylvania State Police at Fern Ridge said tonight.

Police responded about 1:20 p.m. Thursday to the shooting at the home of 50-year-old Bernadette O'Reilly in the 200 block of Whisperwood Road in Saylorsburg, Chestnuthill Township. She was taken to St. Luke's University Hospital, Fountain Hill. Police labeled the incident an attempted homicide.

Police said reports they received indicate the shooter was a white woman in her 40s with blonde or grayish hair. One report indicated a dark-colored sedan was in the area at the time of the shooting.

"There is no indication that a suspect is targeting random people, but residents are reminded to be vigilant at their homes and report anything suspicious to 911," state police said in a statement.

Police ask anyone with information to call 570-646-2271.
