Lackawanna County man killed in crash on Route 33 - UPDATE

The 53-year-old South Abington Township man was pronounced dead at 7:15 a.m. Monday, according to the Monroe County Coroner's Office.

Gallery previewThe Monroe County Coroner's Office said a 53-year-old Lackawanna County man died Monday morning when a tractor-trailer smashed his SUV on Route 33.

Gerald A. Kimble, 53, of South Abington Township, Pa., was pronounced dead at 7:15 a.m., according to the Monroe County Coroner's Office.

He died when a tractor-trailer traveling north on Route 33 in Hamilton Township crashed through the guardrail into the southbound lanes, striking Kimble's 2012 Kia Sorrento head-on, according to a Pennsylvania State Police at Swiftwater report.


Kimble's family could not be reached for comment. According to The Pocono Record, Kimble was a nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill, and was on his way to work Monday.

St. Luke's did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The highway was closed for nine hours in Hamilton Township, the Pocono Record reports.

Freddy Jaramillo, 24, of Elizabeth, N.J., was driving south in the right lane at 6:17 when his 2003 Freightliner truck went through the guardrail, hit the Kia and rolled over on the highway, police report. Jaramillo was injured and cited with a travel lane violation, police said.
