A preliminary hearing has been set for April 26 at 10 a.m.

An Easton man being moved from the Warren County Jail to Northampton County Prison today unlocked the door of a detective's car and ran two blocks down Larry Holmes Drive before being caught, authorities said.

While being extradited from Warren County to Northampton County for a parole violation earlier today, William Walls, 30, of the first block of South Fifth Street, escaped from the rear door of a vehicle being driven by Det. Francis Jordan of the Northampton County District Attorney's Office, records say.

When Jordan stopped at a red light on Larry Holmes Drive near the intersection with Sitgreaves Street, Walls asked for some fresh air, prompting Jordan to roll down the vehicle's rear right window, records say.

Walls then reached outside the window, unlocked the vehicle's door and ran roughly two blocks southeast on Larry Holmes Drive until he was apprehended by Jordan, who left his vehicle in a traffic lane, and another assisting detective, authorities said.

Court records show that Walls was being extradited back to Northampton County on a bench warrant for a parole violation.

Walls was arraigned today before District Judge Elizabeth Romig-Gainer. He was sent to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing has been set for April 26.
