Commissioner Charles Ramsey has announced at a news conference today that a regularly scheduled audit showed that one weapon was missing, the M16. He says only a few officers had access to the safe where the guns were located at the Philadelphia Police Training Academy in northeast Philadelphia.
Ramsey says someone was either careless or the gun was stolen by one of the department's own officers. He says he does not think the weapon could have been stolen by anyone outside the department.
