Gov. Tom Corbett on Tuesday announced awards for Bethlehem Catholic High School, Parkland School District and Pius X High School.
Two Northampton County high schools and one Lehigh County school district have been awarded $60,000 in federal grants to boost their hybrid learning programs.
Gov. Tom Corbett on Tuesday announced $633,000 for 50 schools statewide. Bethlehem Catholic High School, Parkland School District and Pius X High School are on the list, according to a news release.
Hybrid learning programs are characterized by small groups that rotate students through education stations, including direct instruction from teachers, independent learning on a computer and collaboration with peers, the release says. The programs employ frequent assessments of participants' performance, which are then used to personalize students' instruction, the release says.
"Blending traditional teaching methods with new technology tools is creating student-centered classrooms that motivate students to succeed and increase their engagement in school," Corbett said.
"This innovative instructional method accommodates all students regardless of their learning style."
Bethlehem Catholic and Pius X in Bangor each received $17,500, the release says. Parkland, which serves North Whitehall, South Whitehall and Upper Macungie townships, received $25,000.
