A Northampton man is accused of trying to steal an estimated $2,700 worth of merchandise from a Towamensing Township general store.
David Anthony Jany, 29, of Northampton, at 6:30 p.m. June 4 entered the Country Junction General Store, in the 6500 block of Interchange Road, and attempted to take 48 items without paying for them, state police in Lehighton said.
Jany was arraigned and, in lieu of $25,000 straight bail, was transported to the Carbon County Correctional Facility. He is awaiting a preliminary hearing on retail theft charges.
According to its website, Country Junction sells various items including hardware, lawn and garden items, baked goods, gift items and furniture.
