The 53-year-old had disappeared while boating in the Lehigh River last Sunday.
The dead man found Friday night in the Lehigh River in Allentown has been identified as the canoeist who went missing in the river last weekend in Northampton Borough.
The man found Friday night was Jeffrey Lacava, 53, of the 1600 block of Newport Avenue in Northampton, according to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.
His body was found Friday night near the Tilghman Street Bridge in Allentown. Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim had said the man had been in the water for a long time.
The park where Lacava went missing is more than 6 miles from where he was found but officials have said the river was running high because of heavy recent rainfall. Officials had been searching a 5-mile radius for Lacava.
The coroner’s office performed an autopsy on Lacava today but said further testing is needed to determine his manner and cause of death.
