Gary West, 38, of Summit, N.J., has been missing since he fell out of his raft on Saturday.
Rescue workers searched for five hours today for a man who fell out of a raft into the Delaware River.
Police said Gary West, 38, of Summit, N.J., was in a raft that overturned 1:40 p.m. Saturday near Upper Mount Bethel Township.
West and his 14-year-old daughter were camping at the Delaware River Family Campground in Knowlton Township when their raft broke away from the group, police said. The raft flipped near Belvidere Corner and River roads on the Pennsylvania side of the river.
The teenager made it to shore but West remains missing, police said.
New Jersey State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman said three dives into the murky river produced no results. Police also conducted an aerial search and a side scan sonar search of the river bottom from a boat.
The search started at9 a.m. and ended at 2 p.m., Grossman said. Workers searched from when the man went missing until nightfall Saturday.
Grossman wasn’t sure why the search was broken off today, but a flash flood watch went into effect at 1:11 p.m. for Warren, Northampton and Hunterdon counties that was to remain in effect until Monday evening.
Grossman wasn’t sure how the weather would affect plans to resume the search.
