St. Luke's University Hospital and Hunterdon Medical Center are also highlighted in the magazine's annual rankings.
Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township ranked in the top 50 nationally in seven of the 16 adult specialties scored by U.S. News & World Report in its 2013-14 survey.
It is the 18th straight year the hospital has appeared in the magazine's annual Best Hospital rankings, a Lehigh Valley Health Network news release said.
“I am thankful, proud and humbled by my colleagues’ unrelenting passion for better medicine that brings this kind of national distinction,” Dr. Ronald Swinfard, the health network's president and CEO, said in the release. “Their focus on providing a superior medical experience supported by personalized service is the reason we were recognized.”
Lehigh Valley was ranked this year in cardiology and heart surgery (No. 41), gastroenterology and GI surgery (No. 26), geriatrics (No. 38), gynecology (No. 42), orthopedics (No. 35), pulmonology (No. 24) and urology (No. 46), the magazine reported.
Lehigh Valley was ranked as high performing in cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, ear nose and throat, nephrology, and neurology and neurosurgery, according to the rankings.
It was ranked as the fourth-best hospital in Pennsylvania but was not among the nation's top 18 cited in the magazine's honor roll.
“A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of,” Avery Comarow, U.S. News health rankings editor, said in the release. “Only about 15 percent of hospitals are recognized for their high performance as among their region’s best. Just 3 percent of all hospitals earn a national ranking in any specialty.”
Lehigh Valley's Muhlenberg campus was high performing in gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology. It was ranked the 23rd best hospital in Pennsylvania, the rankings show.
St. Luke's University Hospital in Fountain Hill was high-performing in diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics and pulmonology, according to the rankings. It wasn't in the top 50 in any adult specialty. It was also ranked as the 23rd best hospital in Pennsylvania. Its facilities in Quakertown and Bethlehem Township, Pa., were not ranked in any specialty, and the Phillipsburg campus was still listed as Warren Hospital and was unranked.
Hunterdon Medical Center was high performing in gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery and pulmonology, the rankings show. It was ranked as New Jersey's 15th best hospital and No. 36 in the New York Metro Area.
Hackettstown Regional Medical Center and Easton Hospital were not ranked in any specialty.
