The 14-foot Starcraft fishing boat has been recovered. The area of interest in the lake is 40 to 80 feet deep, Carbon County's director of emergency management says.
The search is continuing at this hour for a missing boater in Beltzville Lake in Towamensing Township, Carbon County, an official said just after noon.
Authorities know who owns the boat but are not releasing that information because the boater has yet to be found.
The 14-foot Starcraft fishing boat with a 75-horsepower engine was seen empty about 6 this morning, Carbon County Director of Emergency Management Mark Nalesnik said.
The lake, which had a slight ripple early this afternoon because from a light wind, is 40 to 80 feet deep in the area of interest, which is not far from the Pine Run boat launch, he said. It is the opposite end of the lake from the dam, he said. The lake is as deep as 100 feet at some spots, he said.
Dive and search-and-rescue personnel are searching the lake, he said. A dive crew from Northampton County was requested earlier this morning, according to emergency radio reports. A Pennsylvania State Police helicopter also joined the search, Nalesnik said.
The lake is popular for boating, fishing and water sports.
