With resources dwindling and the area of interest searched, the recovery operation is put on hold, the Carbon County official says.
The search for the body of a missing boater in Beltzville Lake has been called off, a Carbon County official said this morning.
The incident commander determined dive crews and other rescue personnel have searched all they could for the Carbon County man who went missing about 6 a.m. Monday, county Director of Emergency Management Mark Nalesnik said. Resources became depleted and the search in 40 to 80 feet of water was terminated Thursday night, he said.
It could be resumed if authorities determine a change in circumstances, he said. The man, who Nalesnik said lived nearby, still hasn't been publicly identified.
Law enforcement has looked at all the possibilities in the case and it appears to be a boating accident, Nalesnik said. The man's family was notified early in the week and had visited the accident scene at Beltzville State Park, Nalesnik said.
The search began after fishermen on the shore saw the man's 14-foot fishing boat operating in an erratic fashion, Nalesnik said earlier in the week. They heard cries for help, but couldn't see the man, Nalesnik said. It's possible the man fell out of the boat and was hanging on, Nalesnik said.
