The traffic stoppages begin at 2 a.m. and wrap up around 6 a.m. just in time for rush hour.
The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission is warning drivers they may encounter traffic stoppages of up to 15 minutes from 2 until 6 a.m. Wednesday on the Easton approach to the Easton-Phillipsburg toll bridge.Drivers are being advised to take Interstate 78 as an alternate route.
The stoppages will occur in both the eastbound and westbound directions.
It will enable crews to install lane delineators between the westbound and eastbound travel lanes, repair a section of guide rail along the eastbound lane and fix two storm-water drainage areas.
"The overnight work will affect a portion of the current construction project’s lane
configuration in the travel-restricted portion of Route 22 west of the commission’s
toll bridge across the Delaware River," according to the commission.
The commission urges motorists to use extreme caution, allow for extra time or take an alternate route.
The road work is part of a long-term travel pattern put into effect earlier this summer for the 2013 phase of the toll bridge's rehabilitation project. The new traffic pattern, which limits drivers to single lanes of travel in each direction, will remain in place until mid-December.
