Flash flood warning in Lehigh, Northampton counties; flood advisory in Warren, Hunterdon, weather service says

The flash flood warning is in effect until 1:15 this afternoon. The flood advisory is in place until 2 o'clock.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning until 1:15 this afternoon for southeastern Lehigh County and south-central Northampton County.

Emergency radio dispatches just after 10 this morning indicated authorities had to close Route 309 at West Saucon Valley Road in Upper Saucon Township due to flooding.

A flood advisory is also in effect until 2 p.m. for Warren and northwestern Hunterdon counties in New Jersey and eastern Northampton County in Pennsylvania. An advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or water is or will soon be ponding in urban areas. Drivers should never try to navigate their vehicles into areas where water covers the road, the National Weather Service said.

A flash flood warning means flooding is already occurring or imminent, according to the weather service. Just after 10 a.m., more than 2 inches of heavy rain had fallen within the past hour in portions of Lehigh and Bucks counties, according to the weather service. The warning also includes northwestern Bucks County.

The warning includes Allentown, Quakertown and Coopersburg, among other areas. The warning area may see another 1 to 2 inches of rain, according to the weather service.

Those who are in the warning area should seek higher ground, and residents who live along streams and creeks should take precautions to protect their life and property, the weather service advises.
