The Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer is set launch at 11:27 tonight from Virginia.

For one night, people in Pennsylvania and New Jersey won't have to travel to Florida to see a NASA rocket launch.

The robotic spacecraft LADEE (pronounced LA'-dee), will fly to the moon, starting from a launch on Virginia's Eastern Shore that's scheduled for 11:27 tonight.

NASA says the launch should be visible from much of the East Coast, including the Philadelphia and South Jersey region -- and possibly farther north.

LADEE -- short for Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer -- will be the first moonshot ever from Virginia in 54 years of lunar missions. The project aims to explore the moon's thin atmosphere and rough dust.

The National Weather Service says mostly clear skies are expected tonight across the region, which should aid rocket-viewers.
