$1 million Powerball winner sold in Northampton County

With no big jackpot winner, Wednesday's drawing will be worth an estimated $400 million.

If you bought a Powerball ticket last week in Bath, be sure to hold on to it.

The Pennsylvania Lottery today said a $1 million winning ticket for Saturday night's drawing was sold at Ahart's Market, 326 S. Walnut St., Bath.

It was one of two $1 million winners in Pennsylvania which matched all five white balls, 01-17-25-37-44, but not the red Powerball 20. The other was sold at the Bi Rite Deli on Red Lion Road in Philadelphia.

Each retailer will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling a winning ticket, according to the lottery.

This morning at Ahart's, assistant manager Sharon Poplawski said the store had just learned it sold a $1 million winner and no one had yet to produce the winning ticket.

"It's all a big surprise," she said. The market had last sold a $1 million winner about 15 years ago or so.

Lottery officials cannot confirm the identity of either winner until each prize is claimed and each ticket is validated. Powerball winners have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes.

The Pennsylvania Lottery encourages each holder of a winning ticket to sign the back of the ticket, call the lottery at 717-702-8146 and file a claim at lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County, or at any of the Pennsylvania Lottery's seven area offices, the nearest of which is in Bethlehem.

More than 109,300 other Powerball tickets in the Pennsylvania Lottery's jurisdiction also won prizes in Saturday night's drawing, including one winner of $40,000 and five winners of $10,000 each. You can check winning numbers here.

No one, however, won the big jackpot by matching all five white ball numbers and the red Powerball number. That means Wednesday's Powerball jackpot will swell to an estimated $400 million -- or a $223.6 million cash-option value.

There also was no big jackpot winner when Powerball numbers were drawn last Wednesday.

Powerball is played in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
