The money up for grabs is funded by state gaming revenues.
A Pennsylvania state representative wants to make sure local fire and EMS departments take advantage of a grant program funded through gaming revenues.
State Rep. Justin Simmons, R-Lehigh/Northampton, said in a news release today he wants to see more grant applications from the 131st District for the 2013-14 Fire Company, Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program.
Applications for grant money are due by Oct. 24. Grants are awarded for construction or renovation of a unit's station and the purchase or repair of equipment, extra training and even debt reduction, according to Simmons. He's directed those interested to learn more about the program on his website.
Last year, 2,665 fire and ambulance departments took advantage of the program statewide, snagging more than $30 million in funding. The program was created in 2007 and is funded through state gaming proceeds.
