P.F. Chang's Home Menu Dumplings Pork and Leek frozen appetizers were removed because they could contain shrimp or pollock not listed on the label -- a threat to consumers who are allergic to shellfish or fish.
Giant has removed an appetizer from stores because of an undeclared allergen. Giant Food Stores has removed a Chinese appetizer from its frozen food section because it could contain shellfish or fish not listed on the ingredient label.
P.F. Chang’s Home Menu Dumplings Pork and Leek frozen appetizers were removed because they could contain shrimp or pollock, both allergens not listed on label, Giant and its sister company, Martin's Food Stores, announced in a news release.
The recall is for the 12.5-ounce package, UPC 3620021215, with "use by" dates of May 8, 2014, and May 9, 2014.
The product is safe for those who don't suffer from a crustacean shellfish or fish allergy, Giant/Martin's said in the release.
The decision was made following a recall by ConAgra Foods, P.F. Chang's parent company.
Giant/Martin's has received no reports of illnesses to date, but people who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to shellfish or fish may run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product, Giant/Martin's said.
Customers who purchased the product should discard any unused portions or bring their purchase receipts to Giant or Martin's for full refunds.
Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a few minutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic, the release said. Allergic reactions can include: hives; flushed skin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face, tongue, or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps; coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling of the throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness, according to the release.
