The NWS issued a "red flag" warning for the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas that extends through Monday evening, indicating conditions may be ripe for fires.
Conditions across the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas may be ripe for fires through Monday evening, the National Weather Service said today. The service's Mount Holly, N.J. bureau issued a "red flag" warning for Northampton, Lehigh and Bucks counties in Pennsylvania and Warren and Hunterdon counties in New Jersey, indicating that certain conditions exist that create a higher probability of fires. Minor brush fires were reported across the Lehigh Valley today.
According to the National Weather Service report:
A red flag warning entails a combination of strong winds and low relative humidity. Winds of 15 to 20 mph are expected on Monday, with gusts up to 40 mph. Relative humidity could be as low as 20 percent. The peak winds and lowest humidity levels are expected from late morning through late afternoon on Monday.
Because fires can spread rapidly with red flag conditions, residents of the affected areas are advised not to engage in activities that involve outdoor burning.
