The stoppages Friday night into Saturday at the Easton-Phillipsburg bridge are needed to allow crews to remove temporary barriers, remove pavement markings and apply new lane striping.

Intermittent closures of Route 22 East, lasting about 15 minutes, are planned between 9 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday in the area of the Easton-Phillipsburg (Route 22) toll bridge, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission said today.

The stoppages are needed to allow crews to remove temporary barriers, remove pavement markings and apply new lane striping.

The commission urges drivers to allow extra time or use an alternate route such as Interstate 78 to bypass construction.

The work is subject to change due to weather, traffic conditions and weather emergencies, the commission said.

The work is part of the toll bridge's $29.6 million rehabilitation project, which got underway in July. Single-lane travel is scheduled to continue in each direction until mid-December.
