Snow is expected to be falling as of 7 a.m. Saturday and continue before mixing with ice by about 7 p.m. Saturday.
Lehigh Valley and northwestern New Jersey municipalities declared, or were considering, snow emergencies ahead of Saturday's forecast of 6 to 8 inches of snow accompanied by about a quarter-inch of ice.
The National Weather Service upgraded its advisory to a winter storm warning, from a storm watch.
Snow is expected to be falling as of 7 a.m. Saturday and to continue before mixing with ice by about 7 p.m. Saturday, the weather service said. The ice is expected to continue into early Sunday, with the precipitation clearing Sunday morning.
The storm warning is in effect 7 a.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Sunday for a region encompassing Bucks, Lehigh, Northampton, Warren and Hunterdon counties.
"Impacts will be felt across the (Pennsylvania) Turnpike, Interstate 78 and Interstate 80," the weather service said in an update issued at 5 tonight.
Snow emergencies declared today include those in:
- Hanover Township, Northampton County, for 9 a.m. Saturday through noon Sunday. Parking on all township streets is prohibited and vehicles may be ticketed with a fine of $50, township public works Director Vincent G. Milite announced.
- Tatamy, for 10 a.m. Saturday through 10 a.m. Sunday. Mayor Luke Duignam said all vehicles must be removed from marked snow emergency routes.
Hackettstown officials announced the possibility of a snow emergency being declared via Nixle Alerts (get the alerts by texting “07840” to “888-777” or signing up at nixle.com) and posted on both facebook.com/hackettstownpd and hackettstown.net. A snow emergency declaration means there is no parking allowed on any streets in the town of Hackettstown, except the municipal lots, town police said today.
