Major highways were cleared of snow as of this morning.
Lehigh Valley residents started digging out this morning after as much as 11 inches of snow fell in some parts of the region.
According to the National Weather Service, snow and ice totals ranged from 4.5 inches in Easton to 11 inches in Pen Argyl. Some other totals were 4.5 inches in Whitehall Township and 8.1 inches in Blairstown.
As of 9:30 a.m. today, the snow and ice had been cleared from Routes 22, 78 and 33 in the area, according to PennDOT. The roads were still wet, however, and PennDOT warned of possible freezing conditions. For more information on other roadways, go to 511pa.com.
In New Jersey, traffic was moving smoothly on Routes 22 and 78, although drivers were being advised to lower their speeds and watch for possible ice, according to 511nj.com.
Accidents were reported throughout the region Saturday, including a
tractor-trailer that almost teetered off a Route 33 overpass. According to Pennsylvania State Police, the tractor-trailer driven by Michael Hassler, 43, of Allentown, was traveling south in the right lane of Route 33 near the Henry Road overpass in Bushkill Township just before 3:30 p.m. The road was partially covered with snow at the time, police said.
Hassler told police that a vehicle in front of him slowed. Hassler moved into the left lane but so did the vehicle in front of him, police said, and Hassler attempted to brake, causing the trailer to slide toward the center median. Police said the truck drove over the guiderail and hit the concrete bridge barrier, straddling it for about 50 feet before coming to rest, police said. The truck was directly over the west lane of Henry Road, but Hassler was able to get out of the truck through the passenger door, police said.
Route 33 and Henry Road were closed for about three hours while the truck was removed, police said. Also assisting at the scene were the Bushkill Township Fire Department and fire police, the Bushkill Township Police Department and PennDOT crews. Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the crash contact the state police station in Belfast.
The storm postponed or canceled dozens of events Saturday, including a candlelight vigil for Newtown victims at Bethlehem City Hall. The vigil was rescheduled for 3 p.m. today.
