Snow emergencies, cancellations in the Lehigh Valley and Warren County

A winter storm warning goes into effect at 1 this afternoon as six to 10 inches of snow is expected this afternoon through Friday morning across the Lehigh Valley and northwest New Jersey, the National Weather Service says. Many schools are closing early.

CANCELLATIONS

The Family YMCA of Easton, Phillipsburg & Vicinity will close at 6:30 tonight. If there is no school or a delay in the Easton schools on Friday, there will be no classes Friday. Questions? Call the Y at 610-258-6158 or check the website at familyymca.org.

All Hackettstown public schools will be closed Friday, according to an alert from the police department.

EMERGENCIES

Easton

No parking will be allowed from 5 this afternoon until 5 p.m. Friday on snow emergency routes so Easton can plow from curb to curb, Mayor Sal Panto said. He offers tips for shoveling, explains the plowing plan and what else residents can expect here.

Hanover Township, Northampton County

A snow emergency will begin 3 this afternoon in Hanover Township, Northampton County, and remain in effect until 6 p.m. Friday, the township said this morning in a news release.

Parking on all township streets is prohibited and those who do not comply will receive $50 tickets, the township said. Tickets can begin even before the snow falls, the township said.

Washington Township, N.J.

In Washington Township, N.J., residents were advised at 8:30 by police that all vehicles must be removed from streets once the snow starts to fall.

Any vehicles left on township roads will be ticketed or towed, according to an advisory from township police.

East Bangor's emergency will go from 3 this afternoon until 1 p.m. Friday, the list says.

Tatamy's will start 5 this afternoon and there will be no parking on snow emergency routes, the list says.

Bath's snow emergency begins at 5 this afternoon and runs until 3 p.m. Saturday.

Hellertown's snow emergency starts at 5 p.m. today and goes until further notice. Cars cannot park on snow energency routes and residents need to shovel their walks, the borough said in a news release.

Washington is banning on-street parking during the storm. Municipal lots will be open and a permit is not required, the borough said on its website.

Bethlehem Township, Pa., will go into a snow emergency at 8 tonight and continue "through the daylight hours of Friday," township police said in the news release.

Alburtis (5 this evening; garbage pickup will be Saturday; vehicles should be removed from all snow emergency routes, police said. Residents may park in the borough hall lot or at the Alburtis Area Community Center until the emergency is lifted, police said.), Allen Township (4 this afternoon), Catasauqua (7 a.m. Friday) and Fountain Hill (4 this afternoon) have opened-ended emergencies with just a start time.

Freemansburg (5 this evening to 5 p.m. Friday), Macungie (9 tonight to 9 Friday morning, emergency parking regulations will be in effect, borough police say), Roseto (5 this evening until noon Friday), Stockertown (midnight tonight to midnight Friday) and Wilson Borough (6 tonight until 3 p.m. Friday) also are declaring emergencies.

Phillipsburg has declared a snow emergency beginning 3 p.m. and lasting until further notice, according to a reverse 911 call.

Palmer Township has declared a snow emergency beginning 5 this evening to 5 p.m. Friday.

Hackettstown now has a snow emergency in effect, according to police. No parking is allowed on any street in town but vehicles may park in municipal lots. When the snow emergency has been lifted, it will be sent out via Nixle Alerts (sign up for the alerts by texting 07840 to 888-777 or sign up by going to nixle.com). Alerts also will be posted on facebook.com/hackettstownpd and hackettstown.net.
