Residents and those who do business near rivers and large streams are told to pay attention to changes in water levels.
The National Weather Service warns as ice shifts on rivers and streams that individual pieces could break away and collect near bends in the stream banks and near bridge abutments, forming ice jams, such as the one on the Lehigh River in West Easton.
More ice jams, similar to the one that threatens to flood the Delaware River in Trenton, could form until warmer air and rain arrive over the weekend, the weather service said in a special weather statement.
A flood warning remains in effect until 4:45 this afternoon in the Easton area.
Those who live or do business along rivers and larger streams in eastern Pennsylvania and north and central New Jersey should be prepared for rapid changes in water levels should an ice jam form or break, the weather service said.
The weather service and emergency management officials continue to monitor the situation and warnings will be issued if warranted.
