Rain is expected to move through the area today but sunny skies are right behind it.

After freezing cold and piles of snow, the Lehigh Valley region can expect to see things get warmer, but wetter, today, according to the National Weather Service in Mont Holly, N.J.

Meteorologist Kristin Kline said there is a flood warning for the area through today as periods of moderate to heavy rain comes across the Valley and into New Jersey. Expect 1 to 2 inches.

"That amount of rain, in conjunction with the ground that is still frozen, means there could be some ponding of water along the roadways and even in grassy areas," Kline said.

The excess water could lead to more runoff problems and could cause some street flooding as well, she said.

As of this afternoon, Pennsylvania State Police in Bethlehem said they have seen some flooding in Allen and North Whitehall townships.

Kline said the weather service is monitoring streams and creeks for problems but nothing significant was reported yet.

But keep an eye on the rivers. Though there aren't any problems with ice jams on the Lehigh River as was seen earlier this week, heavy rain will add to the flow.

"If there is any remaining ice, that's something that should be watched today," Kline said.

If you're tired of the wet and damp weather, fear not: Sunny skies and temperatures in the middle to upper 40s are expected for Sunday and Monday, Kline said, as a high front moves through the area, which will give the region a chance to dry out.
