A man came to the door asking to use the phone, police say.

A Bethlehem Township, Pa., man was punched and his money and prescription drugs taken during an attack early this morning in his home, police say.

The attacker asked to use the phone at the 46-year-old's home shortly before 12:40 a.m. in the 3200 block of Rim Road, police Chief Dan Pancoast said.

After making several calls, the man's phone began to ring and the resident asked him about it, Pancoast said. The man punched the resident in the head, grabbed several prescription medications and a small amount of money from a table in the home and fled, Pancoast said.

The resident chased the man until hearing him say, "get the gun," Pancoast said. The resident returned to his home and called police, the chief said.

The man left along Rim Road in what was described as a red Buick, Pancoast said. No one is in custody.

The attack happened about 20 minutes after another altercation in Forks Township, according to emergency radio reports. Although initially reported as a home invasion, police later said it was a domestic disturbance and no charges were filed.

Freelance photographer Tim Wynkoop contributed to this report.
