The 39-year-old victim was fatally shot in the head early this morning at home in a modular home development in Hamilton Township.
Darcey E. Kravchenko was in bed inside his modular home on Old Timber Road in Hamilton Township when someone drove up and fired multiple shots at the home, Allen said. Kravchenko awoke, stood up and was shot in the head, according to the coroner.
A 911 call reporting the shooting came in to the county at 12:27, Allen said. The victim was pronounced dead at 1:52 at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg.
The cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy scheduled Wednesday at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township, the coroner said.
Members of Kravchenko's family, including teenage children, were home at the time, Allen said. No one else was reported injured, he said.
Pennsylvania State Police at Swiftwater are investigating but were unavailable this afternoon to provide more information. Allen deferred to state police on the number and caliber of the rounds fired. A call to the Monroe County District Attorney's Office was not immediately returned.
A neighbor, who declined to be identified, told the Pocono Record: “I was in bed around 12:30 a.m. when my son and I heard five or six shots in rapid succession. I looked out and saw a guy with a flashlight get into a car, back out of the driveway and race off. It was dark, so I couldn't get a good description."
The home is in a modular home development just off Route 33, south of Interstate 80.
The resident added to the newspaper: “All the neighbors here get along. I myself have been here 12 years. The people who live in the house where it happened have been here five or six years. Don't know much about them.”
