A pair of car accidents in Monroe County this weekend have left two men dead and one man seriously injured, according to state police.

According to news releases from the Pennsylvania State Police's Lehighton station:

Les Young, 37, of Kunkletown, died when he lost control of his car at 5:24 this morning on Silver Springs Road south of Little Mauch Chunk Circle in Eldred Township and struck a tree at a "very high rate of speed."

Young was dead when police arrived on scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The Monroe County coroner ruled Young's death an accident that resulted from blunt force injuries.

At 9:20 p.m. Saturday in Polk Township, a 2005 Nissan sedan driven by a 19-year-old Brodheadsville woman drove off the northbound lane of Polk Township Road and into a field, where it struck a utility pole. Two passengers, a 19-year-old Kunkletown man and a 21-year-old Lehighton man, were ejected from the car upon impact.

The Kunkletown man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the Lehighton man was taken to an area hospital for moderate to severe injuries.

The car's driver, who was not injured, was taken to the hospital to have her blood-alcohol content measured.

An investigation into the Polk Township crash is ongoing, and police are withholding the names of the driver and passengers pending notification of relatives.
