Warren and Hunterdon counties are in the flash flood watch that runs through 8 a.m. Saturday but are not included in the tornado watch, which is expected to end at 2 a.m.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for Northampton and Lehigh counties, adding to the flash flood watch in effect for the greater Lehigh Valley.
The tornado watch is in effect through 2 a.m. Saturday with the flash flood watch running through 8 a.m., the service said. Warren and Hunterdon counties are in the flash flood watch but are not included in the tornado watch.
A tornado touched down in southwest Pennsylvania about 5 p.m. Friday, destroying some homes.The tornado near Ligonier, Pa., caused heavy damage in surrounding areas. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
The intense weather is moving eastward, bringing high winds and heavy rain. An inflatable sports dome near Pittsburgh collapsed after the storms tore a hole in the roof, but no injuries were reported there.“It’s not pretty here,” Westmoreland County Emergency Management spokesman Dan Stevens told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “We’re still assessing.”
A cold front coming through the Lehigh Valley region will result in showers and thunderstorms tonight and early Saturday, according to the weather service. Rainfall is expected to be between one and 1.5 inches, with as much as 2.5 inches in heavy storm areas.
A flash flood watch means weather conditions may lead to flash flooding, the weather service says. Continue to monitor upcoming forecasts, and be prepared if a flash flood warning should be issued, the weather service advises.
