The Associated Press says a decision won't be made until after Sandusky is sentenced.

Convicted sex offender Jerry Sandusky could still receive his state pension despite his conviction last week under Pennsylvania state law, Reuters is reporting.

The wire service says by law, the former Penn State assistant football coach can only forfeit his pension after he is sentenced for an Act 140 state crime. The act covers such crimes as extortion and bribery by a public employee and not violent crimes or sexual abuse.

Sandusky retired in 1999 after his last game as the Nittany Lions' defensive coordinator. He receives a pension of about $59,000 a year for the rest of his or his wife Dottie's life, news media have reported.

But the Associated Press is reporting the state's public employee pension system says it won't be able to say if Sandusky will lose his retirement benefits until after he's sentenced, which is scheduled for about three months away.

A pension system document says forfeiture can also occur when a school employee commits certain sex offenses against a student.

Sandusky was convicted Friday of 45 counts of sex abuse for assaulting 10 boys over 15 years.
