Pennsylvania State Police investigated 44 car crashes over the Fourth of July holiday period that resulted in eight injuries, according to police.Of the crashes investigated by state police Troop M, which covers parts of Northampton, Lehigh and Bucks counties, five were alcohol-related, police said. None of the crashes resulted in a fatality, police said.
The Fourth of July holiday period extended from Wednesday, July 4 to Sunday, July 8.
During the holiday period, troopers from Troop M issued 963 traffic citations, half of them for speeding, according to police. In all, 31 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said.
