Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission invites the public to two open houses next week on the project.
The public has two chances next week to find out more about an Easton-Phillipsburg (Route 22) toll bridge project that’s expected to tie up traffic for at least 15 months.
The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission is holding two open houses on the work.
Construction and other work are expected to start in June and last until early 2015. During that time, according to the commission, the bridge will be a single lane in each direction for 15 months. There will also be detours.
The open houses are Wednesday. One is 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Grand Eastonian Suites Hotel, 140 Northampton St. in Easton. The other is 6 to 8 p.m. at the Easton-Phillipsburg Toll Bridge Administration Building, 76 Broad St. in Phillipsburg.
Information on the restrictions and detours will be available. The public can look at plans, ask project designers questions and submit comments.
The planned work is the 75-year-old bridge’s first rehabilitation since 1990, according to the bridge commission.
The $29.6 million project includes repairs, cleaning and painting; installing a drainage system; reconstructing and repaving approach roads; and upgrading the toll plaza. It’s part of a $1.2 billion plan to rehab commission bridges
The bridge has cracks, rust, peeling paint, deteriorated asphalt patches and concrete, and leaks, according to the commission.
The commission has a Web page, www.drjtbc.org/tollbridgerehab, devoted to providing information about the project.
