Trial to resume in Giants Stadium escalator suit

Eight people injured in the December 2007 accident sued Schindler, the company that maintained the escalator, and Giants Stadium, the operator the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.

A jury is set to resume hearing testimony in a lawsuit over an escalator accident at Giants Stadium.

The trial began last week in state Superior Court in Hackensack.

Eight people injured in the December 2007 accident sued Schindler, the company that maintained the escalator, and Giants Stadium, the operator the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.

Schindler settled with plaintiffs on the first day of the trial.

Several people suffered serious injuries, including one man who lost part of a leg, when the escalator sped up then stopped suddenly as it carried fans at the end of a New York Giants-New England Patriots game.

Last week jurors heard plaintiffs' lawyers describe their injuries in graphic detail. They also heard from two doctors who operated on some of the victims.
