Jose Carranza, a 28-year-old illegal immigrant from Peru, is charged with murder, robbery, sexual assault and weapons offenses. He is one of six defendants in the triple murder case.
The trial of one of six defendants in a brutal triple murder that gripped New Jersey’s largest city in 2007 is scheduled to resume this week.
Jose Carranza, a 28-year-old illegal immigrant from Peru, is charged with murder, robbery, sexual assault and weapons offenses.
Carranza was arrested in August 2007 with five other men and boys for the execution-style killings of Dashon Harvey, Iofemi Hightower and Terrance “T.J.” Aeriel in a playground behind Newark’s Mount Vernon School. The victims were friends who were attending or planning to attend Delaware State University.
A jury in Newark heard opening arguments last week that focused on prosecutors trying to tie Carranza to the scene.
Two defendants have already been convicted and are serving consecutive life sentences. Two more have pleaded guilty.
